Cedar Grove-Belgium

Preparation for the 2011 football season
By Nick Peterson
After a short season of last year’s football phenomenon, the Rockets are keeping their heads on straight for the upcoming season. The weight room has been the main focus for the young team and they are doing a fabulous job at hitting it hard.  “Whenever I hit up the weight room; it’s always jam-packed with the future seniors of this Rocket program,” said Ryan Nehmer. Encouraging their fellow teammates is the least of the Rockets problems. After falling short three years in a row, losing to the state champions, the Rocket’s have a great motivation to keep working hard and succeed in taking home the Golden ball at Camp Randall Stadium next November. They are all looking forward to seeing you guys cheering them on next year throughout the season.

Rocket Football

By Student Reporters: Chris Peszko, Zach Schulz, and Nick Peterson

The varsity football team of 2010-2011 has begun, and it is off to a slow start unlike previous years.   The junior heavy varsity team is trying to fill the shoes of 9 starting seniors from the previous year, only working with five seniors this season and losing one early due to an injury.
Their first game of the season was against the Ripon Tigers and resulted in a loss of 39-12.  After that, they kept their heads up for their next game against the Clinton Cougars and worked hard preparing for the game.  On Friday the Rockets came out fired up and ready to redeem themselves. They were coming up, hitting hard, and wanting a win. The Rockets started out on defense against the Cougars, and stopped them in 4 downs and had to punt. Once the Rockets got the ball they took it down and scored then never looked back winning big 53-8. Then the team had Ozaukee the first conference game of the season. Ozaukee had a new coach and a whole new game plan.
The first quarter Ozaukee came out in a whole new formation that the Rockets have never seen before, but the Rockets were able to stop them right away. Once the Rockets got the ball they were able to score the first couple times they had the ball. Then when they started to score Ozaukee magically had some “light problems” that the lights would not turn on until after Ozaukee had taken the lead. This brought us to half time.  The Rockets were getting worn out by the Ozaukee offence. Ozaukee pulled out a slim victory in the last minutes of the game which gave Cedar Grove their second loss of the season. After that game the Rockets coaches started to buckle down. The whole team is getting more focused and is ready for the upcoming game against the Random Lake rams. They have a strong backfield and in order to win the game, the Rockets defense is going to have to step up to assure the first conference victory.
