True Grit

By Cole Prinsen
The Coen brothers’ remake of the classic film True Grit had a lot of expectation coming into theatres in December. First of all the film was star-packed with award nominated and award winning actors like Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin. Also, the Coens are a personal favorite of mine, with film credits such as Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, The Big Lebowski, and Best Picture winner No Country for Old Men. On top of that, the original book and film are already beloved cinematic treasures. Needless to say, I was chomping at the bit to see this film and, even after all of the hype, I was still overly impressed.
The movie was filled with brilliant performances that completely reinvent the True Grit characters. I was particularly impressed with Bridges as Rooster Cogburn and cinematic newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross. The most impressive thing that the Coens are able to do is portray life in the old West realistically. The dialogue is a big part of this, as it is taken almost verbatim from the novel.  Another part of this is how filthy the enemies appear. I could not even recognize Barry Pepper, who played lucky Ned Pepper.
The Coens have struck gold yet again with this masterpiece. Go see it now, as it is possibly the best film of the new decade.

Famous Film Actor Tom Cruise
Has Not Yet Refuted a Visit to Cedar Grove

As unbelievable as it may seem, the star of many hit films such as Top Gun, Jerry Macguire, and Mission Impossible, according to experts, may or may not be visiting the small Dutch community of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. In a recent interview with Telegraph©, Tom Cruise made commentary about his film Knight and Day.“You have comedy, drama and action and it’s very dynamic, so it’s actually four times the workload.” As anyone can see from this statement, Mr. Cruise has not said anything about not visiting Cedar Grove. Experts would also agree that the film star may possibly, by chance, visit the small town. Provided that this notorious figure would maybe make an appearance, the town’s economy might skyrocket, probably. Now citizens of this town might be anticipating the not-impossible arrival of Tom Cruise maybe, perhaps.
